VEHICLE AND DISMOUNT EXPLOITATION RADAR (VADER) DETACHMENT MANAGER  IN AFGHANISTAN,  2012

  • In-country manager responsible for directing all aspects of a forward deployed (Afghanistan) airborne ISR collection and exploitation analysis aviation detachment consisting of five subcontractor companies, thirty personnel, classified material, aircraft, radar & EO/IR collection system, and aircraft maintenance on a U.S. Army contract. 
  • Coordinates directly with OCONUS U.S. Army customer and supported units (USA, USMC, British RAF, British Army, and others) while flying two intelligence missions per day using specialized equipment at a forward operating base - Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan. 
  • Executed missions above a 90% availability rate and below budget. Improved detachment’s safety, health & operational effectiveness. 
  • VADER Program Manager’s comments – “built a great relationship with our new government sponsor in theater.”   In-country senior officer customer comments (Colonel, O-6 rank) – “Outstanding … turned out a brilliant performance”.

OPERATIONAL CONCEPTS ANALYSIS MANAGER, 2009 – 2012

  • Lead System Integrator (LSI) Chief Engineer for the U.S. Army’s Future Combat System Class IV Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). 
  • Responsible for leading the technical activities of a dynamic team and all technical decisions pertaining to subcontractor selection, integration of subcontractors’ products, program review (SRR/PDR/CDR) management, and prototype delivery. 
  • Acted as LSI technical manager for subcontractor air vehicle segment, Northrop Grumman’s RQ-8B UAV (over $100 million contract).

CHIEF SYSTEMS ENGINEER, MODELING AND SIMULATION TEAM LEAD & AVIONICS ENGINEER, 1988-2003

  • Advanced research and development team leader for implementing radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR) energy phenomena and countermeasures into aircraft designs. 
  • Performed marketing for the Comanche reconnaissance/attack helicopter advocating its capabilities to customers using computer modeling and simulation at disparate locations. 
  • Successfully lead a team that interfaced with the U.S. Army to timely deliver a critical computer simulation.  This demanded creative and tactful coordination of diverse functional groups which resulted in a “Team of the Year” award. 
  • Presented a paper in Germany to an international NATO aeronautical organization on advanced modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Operations analysis committee forum chairperson for the American Helicopter Society.
